January in The Yoga Portal

There is no individual without the whole.

We are all delicately interconnected, like a web weaved since the beginning of time. Through mindfulness and yoga we thin the veil between our perception of this fundamental interdependence.

We are one body. What you do not only influences yourself but has a causal effect on everyone in your environment, whether it’s your immediate community or those sharing this planet earth. Your actions ripple outwards continually, just as if you’ve thrown a pebble into a body of water. Reminding ourselves that we are all a sentence in the same unfolding book, we can live with more compassion.

In this collective body, there is no role too large or too small for you to play. There is no need for an incentive to support each other – wouldn’t the heart do its best to support the lungs? Wouldn’t the brain do its best to support the feet? We are many parts collaborating together. Understanding this returns us to our true nature, bringing harmony to ourselves and the world around us.

Our month will open with a guided meditation called Perfect Harmony, which you can find in The Yoga Portal now. Sit and breathe with this meditation that invites you to reflect on the mutual support happening between you and nature with every cycle of breath.

“Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect.”
